Lil Tecca expresses his struggles in “TEC”

New album stays the path of past works

Official album cover for ‘TEC’

“TEC,” the third studio album by Lil Tecca — legally known as Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe — was released through Galactic Records and Republic Records. Republic has had contracts with the likes of talented artists such as Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder, The Weekend, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Drake and the Jonas Brothers. They are obviously phenomenally successful big-name artists, and since Tecca is a part of that, he has a ton of potential and room to grow.

“TEC” is exactly what you would expect from Tecca, following the same vibe we have come to love with this upcoming artist.

After receiving mainstream success for his single “Ransom” in 2019, he has been consistently keeping up the momentum-releasing music. This album contains 16 songs with a run time of 38 minutes total. Each song is beautifully produced with a crisp, finished feel, while the lyrics are exactly what you would expect.

Some exceptionally outstanding songs on this album include “HVN ON EARTH,” “500 lbs” and “Fell In Love.” Tecca has, in the past, worked with other big rap artists like Juice WRLD, Trippie Redd, Chief Keef and Lil Uzi Vert to name a few. This album also incorporates a few features including Kodak Black and Ken Carson. Both are big names within the current rap community and fit in perfectly with the feel of this album.

Other than those two songs, the others are all Tecca which is a good thing because it allows Tecca to shine with his own lyrics and message.

A repeated theme within this album is remarking on the change in how society treats him after he got his fame. Considering he was just 17 when his first big hit became popular, this is a very personal issue Tecca struggles with. Songs about struggle and emotion fit the genre of rap that he is associated with and are pleasing to hear. And for those who enjoy other types of rap, there is still a decent amount of lyrics mentioning basic luxuries like money and women.

This new album is available for download on services like Spotify and Apple music. You can even purchase a physical copy from Tecca’s website for only $10. Any fan of modern rap should check out this album.

Lil Tecca is an upcoming star and shows potential to continue growing and evolving his musical style. We can only speculate at this point how much his music career will take off, so it is important to keep an eye on him for now.
