Josh says 3 and a half stars: Interesting but the original was better
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” brought a modern twist to an older film. The story follows Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a journalist who, after a layoff, finds herself working at Runway Magazine again.
The sequel reintroduces fan-favorite characters like Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, the editor-in-chief of the coveted fashion publication. The character originally takes inspiration from Anna Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue.
Streep’s performance was exhilarating as always. However, Hathaway sometimes felt like a background character in her own movie.
The sequel was definitely different from the first film. While the movie tried to modernize the story, parts of it ultimately felt rushed and unevenly put together. The twist also felt somewhat underwhelming, although it still managed to surprise me. From a journalist’s perspective, some parts of the story felt a little insulting. Andy seemed to gain “plot armor” through her career opportunities.
I understand journalism as a profession is shrinking because of downsizing and AI, but seeing Andy suddenly land a coveted job almost out of thin air was kind of weird.

Angie says 5 stars: Best sequel ever
After a 20-year wait, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” finally hit theaters May 1. The sequel picks up with a sharper and more reflective tone. Right from the beginning, I liked how the film showed Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), losing her job because of budget cuts.
That moment especially stood out to me because the first movie showed how much journalism matters. I thought it was amusing that Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Andy still have their very unique relationship. Their dynamic remains just as entertaining and comical as it was in the original film.
Seeing the original cast return made the movie feel even more nostalgic. It brought back the familiar energy that made the first film so memorable while still introducing something fresh.
Overall, the movie kept me interested from beginning to end. The dialogue was entertaining, the fashion commentary remained sharp and the story felt like a strong continuation of the original.
In the end, the sequel was worth the wait. It brought back everything I loved about the first movie while still feeling fresh and meaningful.
