Mylia says 4 and a half stars
After a long wait, the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” hit theaters April 24. With a two-hour runtime, the movie was very entertaining. Although there were some challenges during production, including directors having to cut certain scenes due to legal issues, it still felt like the filmmakers delivered a strong film about an outstanding music artist.
The film explores Michael’s life from his early years in the Jackson 5, gradually showing his transition away from his brothers as he grew older.
The film was very music-heavy, featuring a lot of his greatest hits. A stand out moment had to be the reenactment of Michael’s iconic ‘Human Nature’ performance.
The energy in the theater and the energy that I felt was electrifying. As a young person who never got to witness the magic of a Michael Jackson performance, I felt like I was really watching the “King of Pop” on the big screen. Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, brings his uncle to life, and tells us his story while showcasing an outstanding performance. With hints of a second film I and many others are anticipating a future announcement.

Jordyn says 5 stars
The “Michael” biopic, released April 24, follows the journey of Michael Jackson, from his early days with the Jackson 5 to earning the title “King of Pop.” Jaafar Jackson, who plays Michael, delivers a standout performance. His facial expressions, vocal cadence and even subtle mannerisms feel really accurate, making his portrayal feel almost surreal. As a fan of Michael Jackson, and coming from a family of fans, it was a powerful experience seeing his story brought to life on screen.
The film highlights his upbringing performing with his brothers before transitioning into key eras of his solo career, including “Off the Wall,” “Thriller” and “the Victory Tour.” Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, intense portrayal made him easy to dislike, which speaks to the effectiveness of the role.
I would recommend this film to Michael Jackson fans looking for an authentic performance. To viewers expecting a fully detailed, one-to-one retelling of his life. Certain topics are briefly addressed or left out. One drawback is that some material was reportedly cut due to legal considerations, including scenes involving Diana Ross.
