The 2025-26 season proved that the Los Medanos College men’s basketball team was prepared to face adversity head on, playing several nail biting and exciting games this season. The Mustangs played several close 100-point games, amazing comebacks and heartbreaking last minute close losses, but continued to fight through every challenge they faced.
By the end of the season, Los Medanos finished with an overall record of 14-15 and a conference record of 9-7, still managing to clinch a playoff spot despite the obstacles along the way.
The Mustangs were characterized by their offense, powered by sharp perimeter shooting and high possession efficiency. In conference play, Los Medanos had one of the top averages per game with 89.6 points and 21 assists. Because of their fast paced style, they created and maintained constant pressure on their opponents and led to several explosive performances and key game changing plays.
Jeremiah Collins, the team’s top scorer, had a fantastic season, averaging 24.1 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. He was supported by guards Kayshaun Hunte and Aiden Dunne who averaged 17.3 and 16.7 points, along with Gianni Altman, who added another 12.5 points per game.
The Mustangs also faced several challenges that tested their resilience. A tight one point loss to Alameda, along with several other tight games, with a close stretch all came down to a few possessions. The team continued to put forth the effort.
“I am proud that no matter how much adversity we faced, we still put forth the effort to continue to fight through every obstacle,” Collins stated.
That teamwork and dedication did pay off. The Mustangs found consecutive victories in February, warning them three consecutive wins. The stretch included a 101-69 win against Merritt College, followed by a 105-72 win over Solano College. They then secured a close 98-96 win against Mendocino College to complete the three game winning streak.
Tom said he was proud of the mental and physical effort the team put in throughout the year and focused on keeping the momentum going.
“We all put in the work. We all liked to enjoy one another’s company, and a lot of us appreciated the work others put in, and embraced the roles, and they all stepped up and even improved on a daily basis.” Tom said.
Tom also capped off the season with a great performance, scoring 27 points against Sacramento City. He described that performance as his favorite moment this season.
“My favorite moment of the season was scoring 27 points against Sac City” and ended the season making the team proud by “fighting every game” to bring playoffs to the team.
“It’s great to be honored for everything we accomplished,” said Altman, recalling the comeback wins as the most rewarding moments from the season. Altman said, “The best part of the season was the unexpected comeback against Napa Valley and everyone going wild when Eric made the game winner.”
Dunne said the season was defined by the team’s determination and grit of the players.
“The thing that I am the most proud of is the perseverance within the team,” said Dunne. “We fought all the way to the end and everyone got better. I believe the team got stronger as we progressed through the season.”
In a season filled with ups and downs, the Mustangs proved something that won’t show up in the box score, a group that kept fighting, kept improving and built a bond that will carry beyond the final buzzer.
