The Los Medanos College Mustangs baseball team were defeated 12-6 by San Joaquin Delta College at home Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The Mustangs exchanged runs with the San Joaquin Delta, but a 6 run 7th inning was too much for the Mustangs to overcome.

The five Mustang pitchers combined to walk nine batters in Tuesday afternoon’s contest. Four of those batters eventually came around to score for San Joaquin Delta.

“I think if we limited those walks, it’s a different game,” said Harmen Sdhu, LMC’s head baseball coach. “They scored a lot of their runs off of free passes. If we’re able to limit that I think [Silva] goes deeper in the game.”

LMC’s starting pitcher, Jason Silva, lasted just four innings on the mound. He walked four batters and gave up two runs in his outing against San Joaquin Delta.

“I think Jason did pretty well,” Sidhu said. “I didn’t think he had his best stuff, but once he started to get going, he started doing well. Once he gets into his groove, he’s usually unhittable.”

LMC’s offense was able to keep pace with San Joaquin Delta, however, Sidhu acknowledged his team was “outhit.”

“We wanted to be aggressive and attack,” coach Sihu said. “Give their pitchers credit, they did execute some pitches in certain situations. We were able to put the ball in play, we just got outhit a little bit today.”

LMC trailed 5-4 entering the seventh inning looking to keep the deficit at one. However, a six run inning, including a grand slam by Schnabel Braeden put the game out of LMC’s reach. While they added two runs, it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback.

LMC drops their second game in a row and falls below .500 on the season. LMC’s next home game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 6 against Sierra College.
