After the IMPACT conference, students were given the opportunity to relax with Student Life at their ice cream social after party. The event took place on the second floor of the Student Union, bringing students for a time of treats and active conversations. The event focused on creating a nice calm space where attendees could relax and unwind after a day of workshops and discussions. As music played to create a mood in the background, students lined up for ice cream, talking as they tried their luck at the cup pong icebreaker games that were left out for them. The casual setting allowed for everyone to step out of their usual circles, and the crowd included people from Los Medanos College students but also people from Diablo Valley College and Contra Costa College, creating a welcomed mix of different voices and communities.
At the center of the room was a countertop island stacked with mini ice cream cups and paper bowls filled with classic toppings like sprinkles, chocolate chips, caramel drizzle and crushed cookies. Students enjoyed the time as they hung out and built their sundaes. The energy turned the casual event into an area where new friends were made and conversations flowed, making a warm and welcoming scene for the rest of the evening.
As the event wound down and most of the people left, but a smaller group stayed behind, looking back on both the Student Union Conference and the social itself. Max Blandon, an LMC student who helped coordinate the event, shared his thoughts of the night.
“I know we planned to have more activities, but honestly, even with just the cup-pong ice breaker question activity people still interacted with each other and it was still like a good event overall, especially with people coming from other schools as well. I know CCC, they came, probably DVC. I’m not too sure but I know it was like people from Los Medanos.” Blandon said.
He further added. “Yeah, we’re looking forward to planning right now, like a dressing type of competition event. And then I know with just the conversations that I was hearing, I know people wanted to do something like a Roblox or a Minecraft event as well, so we might look into that.”
Jamie Gantt, another LMC student appreciated the atmosphere. “It was really nice to meet people from CCC. It seemed like everyone was chilling too, so it made me feel happy,” Gantt said.
For other students like Harry Pettis, the turn out was surprising. “The event was really nice, you know, a lot more people came than I expected. it was fun, I had fun, we got to meet people, and I can’t wait for the next little party that they have.”
The ice cream social served as a lighthearted close to the Student Union Conference, showing how simple activities and sweet treats can help build community.
