It’s the season of love, friendship, and celebrating the people closest to you. LMC celebrated Valentine’s Day with an event called “Galentine’s Day” on Feb. 15. The event took place on the 2nd floor of the Student Union building from 6 to 10 p.m. and featured food, games, and karaoke.

The atmosphere was fun and loud. The buzz of excitement filled the room before the event even began. Before the start of the night, Guadalupe Gauma and Faith Garcia wanted to see how the night would turn out by helping a bit with setting up.

“This is my first time participating in an event like this and I’m excited to see what the team did and wanted to go because it sounds fun. I just loved being involved as well!” said Gauma.

“Just being here and going through the experience excites me,” said Garcia.

For Drew Booth, the person in charge of Galentine’s Day, this couldn’t be a better night to remember.

“We have been planning this since December,” said Booth. “Honestly, I’m tired of going to events where feminine energy is subdued.”

Sushi was served alongside a tray of cupcakes. The red and pink decorations fit perfectly in the aesthetic of the night. Karaoke began about half an hour and was supposed to last for two hours. However, the night took a life of its own and the singing instead lasted four hours. Students would go up and sing a song they chose and the rest of the crowd would cheer, laugh, smile, and even sing along.

For student Anna Capperauld, it was interesting how many people arrived at the event.

“There were a lot more people than expected. Most people are probably here for free food, including me,” said Capperauld.

For Honeymiel Montecillo, student government president, the atmosphere was “very welcoming.”

“Seeing my friends made my night after all the stress that I felt this week,” said Montecillo.

Rita Cao sang a song from six musicals and impressed the audience with her wonderful singing skills. Whilst, there were laughs shared when a girl group that called themselves “BRATZ” came up and sang “Promiscuous Girl” by Timbaland. And lastly, Jin Christian, who sounded just like Elvis Presley, killed it with the song, “Fools rush in”.

The arms swayed through almost every slow song added with singing out loud and cheering. It truly was a magical night for those who attended.

The celebration came to an end with a few prizes being given. For first place a flower headband meaning Queen of Karaoke, for second a tiara for Princess of Karaoke, and lastly, a Hello Kitty mug for third place. The night concluded with one final thought from the booth, “Live, laugh, and love” which fit the entire night perfectly.
