LMC Student Life hosted a lively costume contest to celebrate Halloween in the Student Union Oct. 30. Students and staff gathered in the top floor of the Student Union dressed up as either their favorite character or just an outfit that was fun to bring together. From video game characters to superheroes, all the way to cowboys, attendees were very creative with their costume selection.
Students and staff alike showed up to show off their costumes to other attendees, allowing their creativity to shine through.
“I am a big fan of DAFT PUNK and they did a collaboration with Fortnite so I decided to dress up like them,” said Eduardo Campos Cervantes.
Ami Kamara dressed as a teddy bear and won the most creative costume.
“I came up with the costume pretty much off the top of my head. Last year I was a beanie baby, so it made sense to me to be a teddy bear this year,” said Kamara.
The event was a refreshing change of pace following midterms week, where students in particular need a place to unwind and find a community that shares their academic burden.
As attendees mingled, they were treated to free pizza and ice cream, courtesy of Student Life. Alongside the pizza was a pumpkin painting station and a small photo booth for attendees to show off their costumes.
“The vibe was relaxing,” said David Duldulao, who came dressed as Superman and won second place in the costume contest. “After all the studying and tests and midterms. It felt pretty good.”
“Most everyone was just hanging out and chilling,” he said.
The event as a whole was fun and festive, with many people making new friends or finding people with similar interests.
“It’s a great opportunity to show yourself from a different side— not just as a student focused on classes and assignments, but as a person with your own tastes, interests, and personality,” said Russell Prudkiy, who dressed up as characters from the anime Demon Slayer, along with their family. “For example, I’ve loved anime since childhood, and Halloween is an amazing chance to dress up as a favorite character and share that passion with others.”
“I truly believe that student life should include events like this,” they said. “They bring a special energy to campus and help build a real sense of community.”
“Overall, it was a wonderful experience,” said Prudkiy. “I’m really glad I got to be a part of it.”
