“Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2” is a hyperactive entertaining movie, filled with many new hilarious mutant food characters called “Foodimals”, like Shrimpanzees and Watermelophants.  Too many new ideas are incorporated that the movie lacks a single focused theme.  It is more about the instant gratification one gets from observing cleverly created characters that seem like mocking Google’s technology savvy over-caffeinated staff.  Against the familiar backdrop setting of San Francisco, all the elements give a feel of the Silicon Valley culture.

Unlike the first movie, which successfully connects the audience on the human story line of a father and son relationship, the sequel does not carry over the heart of the first movie. Rather it engages the audience through a wide range of visually appealing aspects like the adorable Foodimals.

The story line begins where the last movie left off in the Island, where the residents are asked to evacuate the Island so that the leftover food from the food maker machine “FLDSMDR” can be cleaned up.  And the genius inventor Flint Lockwood finally feels he is recognized when he is called to retrieve the lost “FLDSMDFR”.

If you are looking for a fun movie with witty comedy and engaging on the surface, then it’s definitely a movie to watch for families with kids or even adults who enjoy animated comedy movies.
