“The Conjuring: Last Rites” hit movie theater screens across the globe this past weekend, it is officially the end of the spine-tingling Conjuring series that followed the life of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. With the fall season starting and Halloween coming close, audiences are in search of a movie that can satisfy that spooky spirit; while also giving them a good scare and on Friday September 5 the film was able to do just that.
The movie contains your typical horror imagery, with similarities to previous films in the franchise it has decent scares, disturbing imagery that fills you with chills and steady pacing that keeps you and the rest of the audience engaged through the entirety of its story.
The movie is located in a small town in Pennsylvania, a family has fallen victim to a haunting and both Ed and Lorrain, with the help of their daughter, decide to offer a hand. You see characters from the past Conjuring films return, some offering killer jump scares and others hitting the audience with a satisfied full circle feeling. The CGI is also very impressive and the actors in this film are able to heavily showcase their talents, not just fear but also sadness and anxiousness Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson who play the iconic couple Ed and Lorraine Warren really ended this series with a bang, not holding back and heavily showcasing their skills.
It feels like they are truly experiencing what the viewers are watching on the movie screen, and it brings the film to life. It is highly recommended to watch this film in IMAX to feel the true horrors and haunting vibes on an even larger scale, the film breathes the sense of family and connectedness to the screen, empathizing with the theme that there is strength in numbers. Although this film means an ending to the series, the way director Michael Chaves ended the series with perfect execution, leaving the audience satisfied as the story gets its well-deserved closure and the box-office data proves this.
Although the film has a mediocre rating online, its performance financially has proven you do not need to have a crazy concept for a film, you just need to scare the audience watching. The film so far has earned over 80 million in its first weekend and 200 million globally after just a few more days, on top of the film’s budget being around 50 million, people see this as a major success for the series. If you, your friends, and family need good jump scares and popcorn, “The Conjuring: Last Rites” is the perfect film for you.
