To build anticipation for their upcoming album coming out in June titled “An Insatiable Violence,” Cryptopsy released a single called “Until There’s Nothing Left.” The single was released on April 15 and after a 2 year hiatus from the band, it didn’t disappoint.
The single is heavy and perfectly encapsulates death metal as a whole genre. I may be slightly biased because they are my favorite death metal band, but most bands after being around for 31 years lose their touch, but Cryptopsy hasn’t.
The whole new album is about social media and the feelings Cryptopsy has towards it, as well as how it has affected our society.
This single is no different as the band speaks from the perspective of a pervert online who is tricking people into sending them explicit images.
It’s a problem that has happened across the internet for a while, and it strays away from the usual topics of violence and death that are featured in metal music.
I really enjoyed the topic of this single, and I think that it’s nice to see a metal band speak about something that has been and still is affecting people to this day.
Moving on to the instrumentals of the song, Flo Mounier, the band’s drummer, changed the style of his drumming for this upcoming album and it’s a nice change of pace from their previous albums.
The pace is quicker and heavier than their last album and immediately upon hearing it I was drawn in and noticed the difference. It was a great new addition to their music that helped give something new to their listeners rather than just keeping the same pace for years.
Cryptopsy has outdone itself with this new single and has left me excited with anticipation for what the whole album will sound like once it releases on June 20.
If you like death metal or even want to explore a new genre, I highly recommend giving this single and band a listen.
