Last weekend, artist Sabrina Carpenter released her seventh studio album “Man’s Best Friend”, with a total of 12 tracks. After the successful release of her previous album, “Short and Sweet” , expectations were high from the start.
The album opens with “Manchild.” The track takes a hit at immature men she’s dealt with in past relationships. Though this song has been trending over TikTok, its popularity can be its own downfall.
The track “Tears” takes a completely different turn from the previous song with its 80s inspired instrumentals. In this song Sabrina talks about how attracted she is to responsible, genuine, strong men: Its title contrasts the very upbeat, catchy and fun music video that goes with it.
In “My Man on Willpower” Sabrina uses her vocals on this track drawing listener in immediately. Its humorous lyrics give listeners a good laugh, feeling like a follow-up to “Tears.” Originally, she felt good having a responsible and respectful man, but now seeing him act the same way towards other women she doesn’t feel special.
Another fan favorite, “Sugar Talking”, is slow in sound, taking a jab at the men who tried to manipulate their way into her heart and her bed. “Put your love where your mouth is, your sugar talking isn’t working tonight,” The entire vibe of the song and the instrumentals, are an excellent combination.
“We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night,” deals with flaws in her relationships; constantly quarreling, making amends, and then almost breaking up again. “We’ve been here before and we will be here tomorrow.” She acknowledges this cycle and how familiar it has become to her.
The next song is “Nobody’s Son.” After a breakup, she’s lost hope for a future relationship. “There’s nobody son, not anyone left for me to believe in,”
You can really sympathize with her after listening to its catchy chorus that makes it popular amongst fans. Although the lyrics are a bit sad, the instrumental is surprisingly upbeat and catchy.
The follow-up to that is “Never Getting Laid,” which seems like a direct link to the last song. She’s accepting the fact that the relationship ended and now wishes the worst for her ex. Many lines in the song make listeners chuckle, such as “..I wish you a lifetime full of happiness and a forever of never getting laid.”
“When Did You Get Hot?” is sleek and sharp. Sabrina’s vocals are highlighted in this track as she sings about how she meets someone from her past she originally didn’t find attractive, but after meeting him again, she realizes he’s hot now. The song is very comical and a highlight of the album.
“Go Go Juice.” opens with her talking about how tough her week has been. She doesn’t have anywhere to go, so she decides to drink.
She mentions in the song that she’s calling her exes and her “Go Go Juice” is what’s helping her, it’s another comical song she goes into a drunken ramble saying “how’s you been?” and “bye, it’s me, how’s mm-call, do you still love?” This track ended up being a favorite among the fans.
Next up on the album is, “Don’t Worry I’ll Make You Worry.” The song is her purposely making her lover worry, it’s a straightforward message with a slow feel.
Now “House Tour” You can tell she’s not singing about a house tour; she’s talking about having sex, and she is the house. is a complete 180 from the previous track. It’s very upbeat and pop-centric.
The closing track, “Goodbye.” shows her growth throughout the album. She says, “Did you forget that it was you who said goodbye, so you don’t get to be the one who cries.”
She goes through a lot of different emotions of wanting to get back with this person, hating them, then wanting them back again, to now officially cutting them off and being over it.
The album was fairly good, compared to her last. It’s not as iconic, overall a good comeback, fans can’t wait to see what she does next.
