K-pop artist Lee Haechan, a member of the popular Korean pop group NCT, has released his first studio album, “Taste,” containing 11 tracks that encapsulate his smooth vocals over a 30-minute-long album.
Relaxing and laid back, “Camera Lights” is the opening track that sets the tone of the album as we listen to this smooth R&B that HAECHAN isn’t a stranger to. He’s clearly influenced by genres such as these, as he chooses to incorporate layered vocals throughout his album.
The title track, the leading single for the album titled “CRZY,” is an upbeat song in its entirety. There are sharp guitar strings within the song that make you just want to get up and dance. His vocals accompany the guitar riffs as he emphasizes how this person makes him feel. “Baby, you drive me crazy tonight.” The undeniable chemistry that he feels between them makes him feel as if he’s going crazy.
There’s a thrilling feeling as you listen to “ADRENALINE,” which is what it feels like to fall for someone at first sight and be enamored with their charms. The song itself reminds me of an early 2000s pop song that you would hear at the club. It’s very energetic and catchy.
“Love Beyond” is jazzy. There is an outstanding presence of a trumpet within the song. He is longing for a significant other, as he desires to build that connection with someone he has met before, but just never had the chance to express how he truly feels. “I’m overwhelmed by you and suddenly afraid if I reach out, a secret will unfold.”
“Roll With Me” and “Intermission” are two of my favorite tracks because of how much they blend into one another. It feels as if all my worries magically disappear when I listen to these two. These songs are perfect to listen to as you drive while the sun is setting; it feels calming.
HAECHAN makes a statement in “Talented,” It’s an electro-funk pop song where the lyrics talk about his passion for music and the talent that he’s built over the years. He’s clearly talented, and he isn’t afraid to admit that.
“WYN?”, which is an acronym for “What’s your name?”, is a hip-hop song as its bouncy in its beat. The lyrics showcase HAECHAN’s attraction to someone, so much so that he wants to get to know them more.
Slow and heartfelt, “Should Be” is a ballad that catches your attention as HAECHAN sings of heartbreak. The piano is sweet in its tune.
“Grey Rain” to me is the perfect song to listen to during this upcoming fall season. HAECHAN, I’m not usually a fan of slower songs, but the melody in this track is soothing to the ear, and it’s a great listen.
Peeking into what’s next for HAECHAN. The closing track, “Outro (Back In The Studio)” is a way for fans to know that even though this is his first album, he’s already “back in the studio” to work on his future projects.
“TASTE” by HAECHAN is so full of pleasant surprises. He incorporates different genres that showcase the smoothness of his vocals throughout all 11 tracks. There’s no doubt that he is an all-rounder when it comes to exploring themes that best suit his musical style and has the confidence to do it. The album is available on all streaming platforms for those who are interested in tuning in.
