From a local artist in Medellín, Colombia to a worldwide sensation “Mañana fue bonito” presented more than just Karol G’s stadium tour.
The Netflix original documentary “Mañana fue bonito” (Tomorrow was Beautiful) premiered May 8 and followed Karol G’s journey of the “Mañana Será Bonito World Tour.”
Emotions and energy were at an all-time high – you could feel it straight through the screen. From the joy and adrenaline to sorrow and suffering, I experienced each emotion with her.
She took us back to her early childhood, and the love for music she shared with her father, Guillermo Giraldo, who introduced her to music. There is no doubt he is the reason she is a global superstar.
At the age of 16, she signed a contract with a new manager and Karol G was promised a successful music career.
She took a leap of faith and moved to Bogota, Colombia where her manager allegedly attempted to take advantage of her. This led to self-doubt and put her music career on hold.
When she told her father she wanted to quit music, it was pure melancholy.
“Se me rompió el corazón” Karol G said.
Giraldo and Karol did not speak for months following her quitting music, and my heart broke for her.
She revisits the fear as she tells her story. As I listen to her hardships, I wish I could travel back in time to protect that young, defenseless girl.
It is clear to me there are no bigger fans than her parents. Her relationship with her dad reflects on my own. No one believes in their daughter’s success like a father does, and it warmed my heart as her dad was present throughout her whole journey alongside her mother, Martha Navarro.
As she walks on stage on opening night in Las Vegas to her hit song “TQG,” chills run through my body. The powerful energy filled the stadium, and I can feel the vibration throughout my body.
As she was inside the steel shark during “BICHOTAG,” I was in awe. However, once it transitioned to “OKI DOKI” she was on top of the steel shark, and it was transparent – she is one powerful woman.
The meaning behind the steel shark is inspiring. She overcame her battles, and instead of getting eaten by the shark, she took control of it.
“Bichota” is a popular term that stems from the Puerto Rican slang term “Bichote,” typically referring to a drug lord. Karol G took that term and created “Bichota” as a term of empowerment – a strong and independent woman.
After facing hardships with record labels, Karol successfully opened her own record label “Bichota Records” — like a true bichota!
Witnessing Karol G take control of her tour, from the setlist, to the choreography, to videography and lighting was inspirational.
“Nunca es que chimba!” said Karol as she explained her shows were never good enough for her. She knew what quality of work she wanted so she got to work, tweaking something from each show until she achieved her “perfect” show.
The closing credits of “Mañana fue bonito” played her new single “Milagros” (miracles). You can feel Karol G’s gratitude for her family and fans through the song.
This documentary was filled with bold visuals, resilience and empowerment. “Mañana Será Bonito” is so much more than just an album, it is a movement filled with empowering individuals.
More than 2 million tickets were sold, in 23 different countries, a total of 65 shows. Tomorrow was, in fact, beautiful.
