Politics have been divided, over these last few years, its getting worse. The Republican party has continued its agenda to trap the left in a corner. Attacking DEI and amping up its charge on immigration, they’ve placed blame on the ‘woke far left’ for any issues they face. This past week, things went awry when reports broke on Wednesday, Sept. 10, popular conservative media personality Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while debating at UVU.
Reports mention he was responding to a student debater when he was shot. I thought this would reset the minds of conservatives, seeing such an impactful figure in their party die in a brutal way.
Wouldn’t you want to get to the source? With the shaky state of our political system, the Republicans blamed the left. Donald Trump–after only hours of Kirk’s death taking place, released a video saying “For years the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals; this kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our county today.”
I realized that the Republican party does not care about Charlie Kirk. The Republican Party only cares about pushing their political agenda. The governor of Utah held a press conference after the shooter was apprehended. Saying, “for the last 33 hours I was praying that if this had to happen here it wouldn’t be one of us; that somebody drove from another state, came from another country; sadly that prayer was not answered.”
This statement was shocking, what kind of person sits, prays, and hopes the killer was not ‘one of us’? Are you praying they weren’t white? Conservative?
Ever since the shooting occurred Republicans have been scrambling to point the blame. Their focus should be that one of their own was killed due to gun violence. They’re not concerned for the safety of the students, or the safety of other political media personalities.
They’ve barely mentioned Kirk these last few days, trying to decipher Robinson’s sexual orientation. The facts are that we don’t have confirmation of his political beliefs. He grew up in a republican family, he’s your typical American white boy and Republicans are scared. Instead of getting to the truth and core issues, they choose to fearmonger their voters and lie. I wish our lawmakers realized that guns are the problem–and people will continue to die unless we fix the gun mess in this country.
