Dear Editor:
As one student who was or can say still is very shy, one issue/concern I have to this day is the layout of the Los Medanos College campus.
Now hear me out, I have gone on the website and seen the video, I have seen the map, and I have seen the layout that shows the blueprint of the school.
Being one of many students who are visual learners, I have noticed that learning the campus layout has been difficult, and I still don’t know where everything is.
Brisa Leon, a classmate of mine, was the only person to teach me where the library is located on campus.
While Guadalupe Gomez, another classmate of mine, was the first to teach me where the student service building is.
I honestly think if it weren’t for two classmates, I would have been lost and just accept ed the fate that I will never learn my campus completely and know what it has to offer to the fullest.
One may say you probably just didn’t try hard enough to actually go out and explore the whole LMC campus, but how would you know that?
The LMC campus is huge, and it’s intimidating to enter a new environment.
Personally, I find it very scary and it can even feel embarrassing to ask for help or directions when first entering a new campus and not knowing anyone.
Yes, I understand and know there’s a tour that is held, but in all reality, when a student is shy, our go-to is always going to be the campus map.
In addition, the only actual video that shows the school campus on the website is the student service building.
It provides a video with vital information and has a 360 view of the building and what each level has to offer for new students who may not know their way around.
If we were to have this information for the whole campus, showing a 360 view of how to get to certain buildings, parking lots, and other areas, students wouldn’t feel as timid when first coming onto the campus.
It would help build a more welcoming campus, especially since Los Medanos College is so large.
