John Kramer returns for more gruesome games in the newest Saw movie to be released in the franchise, “Saw X.” After missing out on the gory fun in the last film, Tobin Bell reprises his role to dispense revenge onto those who wronged him in this movie. Alongside Bell, many familiar faces return in this movie as well.
The film opens up with John Kramer battling his way through cancer treatments and support groups. The somber, but unsettling tone of the movie is set well within these first few shots. Not only that, but we also get to see Kramer think up a “game” when watching a hospital janitor nearly steal from a comatose patient.
This was just the first of the many games shown throughout the movie as Kramer travels to Mexico upon being told of a shady treatment that can supposedly cure him. Yet, it just so happens to be one massive con and the artists find out quickly why you don’t wrong John Kramer.
The revenge plot this movie takes is a refreshing one to see in a Saw movie and seeing Kramer reunite with Amanda Young, played by Shawnee Smith, on the big screen for the first time since 2009 is amazing. The plot is great and for once, Kramer and Young are portrayed as protagonists for most of the film. In fact, the plot frames the games in such a way that it’s hard to feel sympathy for the con artists.
The games in question are as gory as ever, returning to the twisted torture Kramer is known so well for. In true Jigsaw fashion, the twisted games involve seemingly impossible actions for the cons to overcome and survive. But even still, there is no shortage of brutal kills in this film.
Overall, this movie is a great yet gory horror movie that is sure to have you looking away at every gruesome detail. This movie was definitely not for the faint of heart, so viewer discretion is advised before watching this movie. But I would still recommend it to movie watchers who are looking for an extreme viewing experience.
