A new action and adventure movie has recently been released titled “Gran Turismo” and it is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a teenage Gran Turismo player who was able to become a professional race car driver. The movie showcased the differences between racing in a video game compared to racing in real life.
It was a compelling story that displayed emotion, hardship and triumph against the odds. The movie is full of speed and high-octane driving that forces Mardenborough to make difficult choices.
Mardenborough faces challenge after challenge, and just when you think he succeeded, another curve ball is thrown to distract him from his dream.
The special effects for the movie were great as the crashes looked as realistic as they could be. The location choices were stunning as well with many worldwide countries shown in the movie.
There was one scene where the car was taken apart and sent Mardenborough back to the previous scene where his father would question the reasoning behind playing the video game instead of playing soccer. This scene looked incredible as it showed the commitment Mardenborough had to proving his father wrong.
The soundtrack was unique as they had mixed Kenny G, Black Sabbath and Enya throughout the movie. It could throw anyone off guard as they aren’t usually implemented together in any other movie.
The flow of the plot for Mardenborough from trying to get his Federation International de I’Automobile certification, or FIA license, to the crash up until the triumph at Le Mans made for a great story arc that stayed true to Mardenborough’s story.
It was also revealed at the end that the actual Jann Mardenborough was the stunt double for his character in the movie.
Archie Madekwe does a great job of portraying Mardenborough with an excellent performance showing the development and growth of the character. Orlando Bloom and David Harbour also bring a lot to the movie, portraying their characters and showing how loyalty and trust are the biggest components of giving confidence to anyone.
The one thing that this movie lacked was pacing. The cuts in the scenes were too much and didn’t really give off the feeling of the anxiety the racers have while driving. It just needed fewer cuts during scenes and the movie would turn out better.
Overall, this movie deals with emotion, story arc and the need for the main character to succeed. It’s a realistic visual of what Jann went through in his life and how he was brought back to the light by his coach after a tragic accident on the racetrack. I would give the movie an eight out of ten-star review.
The movie currently has a 98% audience score as most of the fans thoroughly enjoyed the film. I would recommend it to anyone to watch the film. It’s available at any movie theater with the price varying depending on location and time.
