Marvel, the well-known superhero franchise, has continued to create flops within the past years when it comes to their movies. Although, within the past week, the movie “Thunderbolts*” exceeded my expectations.
The movie came out on Thursday, May 1, and had many fans flocking to the theater. Although I didn’t see it until Sunday, I was still surprised that at a 7:15 p.m. showing, there was a pretty good turnout after the movie had been out for some time.
The movie follows the sister of Black Widow, Yelena Belova, who is an assassin instead of a superhero like her sister. Her backstory was very interesting and allowed fans to officially meet her father, Alexei Shottakov.
With the weight of guilt weighing on her, she was persuaded to change from bad to good, and along the way, she met the unlikely heroes and formed a union.
The movie reminded me of Marvel’s version of Suicide Squad, a DC movie about villains uniting.
Although the one major difference, they were uniting more as a family rather than multiple villains doing things together, like in the Suicide Squad movies.
I found the movie to be dark but had a great sense of humor and had me cracking up in many scenes, which seemed to be shared amongst the entire audience as the theater was filled with laughter.
I personally wish that they had scenes featuring Black Widow due to her being a badass character in general, although the overall movie was very well done, and the CGI was way better than their past movies.
Especially Deadpool and Wolverine, the entire point of said movie is to be canonically bad, both in plotline and special effects.
There were multiple plot twists that tend to keep the viewer intrigued with very well-known actors that many fans recognise either from past films or other popular franchises, making it a movie that everyone can see and know at least one character who is featured.
Although, in my opinion, there were almost too many action sequences, and they were too fast-paced with some parts that were a bit confusing, or you could tell were only there to progress the plot line. Personally, I’m not a huge Marvel fan and didn’t understand some of the references, although even with that, I was still able to understand most of the plotline.
I definitely recommend this movie to others due to the dark humor, the very realistic special effects, and the plotline of the story itself.
It had such an interesting and dark plotline to it, and definitely held my attention, which is rare for me in most Marvel movies.
