Dog Man premiered on Jan. 31, after being made into an adaptation of the children’s book by Dav Pilkey.
The movie ran for an hour and a half and was such a cute movie that touched on many different topics that made it engaging for both adults and children.
If you read the books as a kid then you already know the story, but if you didn’t the movie follows Dog Man, who comes to be after a work accident causes a police dog and a human police officer to have to be conjoined together to form him. In his new state, he continues to work towards arresting the main villain in the film, Petey the Cat, who is voiced by Pete Davidson.
Throughout the movie, there are scenes that tug at your heartstrings and make you sympathize with Dogman on a more personal level.
The movie touches on family issues, loneliness, abandonment, and even how our raising can impact the way we are in adulthood.
Throughout the movie, I could find myself relating to some of the characters and seeing things that happened in my own life occurring on the screen. This sounds crazy for a kid’s movie, but it was something that adults could relate to and even help them engage in the movie while their kids watched.
Throughout the movie in the theater, there were many laughs among both adults and children. The jokes in the movie weren’t only targeted toward the kids in the audience which often makes children’s movies fall short with their older audiences. I think that’s what made this movie so enjoyable and fun to watch.
There were fun twists that kept the movie from getting boring, and it was exciting to see them bring back characters that were only mentioned once and make them such a big part of the plot.
The animation style was really nice, and since it was from the same author who wrote Captain Underpants, you can kind of see some similarities in the animation style of that movie as well.
Overall, this was a really cute and fun movie that was able to engage both adults and children with its plot, and themes. If you need just a fun, lighthearted watch or even something to watch with your kids or siblings, this is the movie for you.
