The LMC Bookstore and Cafeteria are both huge staples for students; but are they actually affordable? Recently, I spent about $10 on a single salad. $10? For a salad?
I then spent $93 on a textbook, turned around, then had to spend another $10 on a sandwich. I understand that both the Bookstore and the Cafeteria need to make a profit, but it shouldn’t be to students’ detriment.
Some people are in their 3rd or 4th year of school, and it’s honestly ridiculous; we already have to pay a lot for classes, and now on top of that, the food on campus is so expensive.
Yes, the cheaper option may be to bring lunch, but not all students have that option.
Items like backpacks, index cards, and even some of the merchandise, are completely fine price-wise. But a pencil — no matter how thick it is — should not be $5 and 25 cents. Expecting a student to pay that much for forgetting a pencil is absurd.
At this point, students should just rely on going to the Marketplace for goodies instead. Also, forcing students who don’t carry cash to spend a certain amount before using a card — a $5 minimum, at that — is uncalled for.
I just want to pay for my pencil and small snack without being forced to go back, run and grab another pencil to push the total over $5, all the while holding up the line between classes. The minimum for cards should really be a lot smaller.
Honestly, burgers, burritos and salads should be 5 dollars max; especially because these aren’t the hardest things to make.
At least offer more food if it’s going to be $10. Maybe something along the lines of chips and burgers. Or even do a combo deal with a drinks, chips, and burger.
