With finals coming soon and the fall semester wrapping up to a close, it is time to study for these tests. Los Medanos students will have the opportunity to attend the Study Slam event happening Friday, Dec. 5, located on the third level of the college core complex inside the Center of Academic Support. There will be computers for students to use and plenty of room for students to sit down and study in a quiet environment.
Sandra Mills, the senior program coordinator, gives a bit of insight: “It’s a place to study and hang out all day. It’s an opportunity to come in and get help,” said Mills, emphasizing what the event entails.
The Center for Academic Support will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Students can come in and study. We will have coffee, tea, snacks and pizza. The tutors and consultants will be here to help students,” added Mills.
For students who may be feeling a bit overwhelmed with their upcoming finals and trying to finish up their assignments for their classes. The study slam event is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of studying help since it will be available.
Student Mariza Soto shares her experience as someone who has previously attended a study slam in prior semesters. “This is my third study slam, and I feel as if students should take advantage of this more. I feel as if it runs under the radar a bit, but you don’t even have to meet with a tutor to be there. It’s a nice place to study. There will be food and drinks, and if you’re studying and doing homework and find yourself stumped, there will be tutors to help,” Soto added.
Soto, who works at the Center for Academic Support as a tutor, gives additional information on the Study Slam: “During the study slams, there are multiple different tutors available in the same place with overlapping times, something that doesn’t happen very often,” she said, explaining that students can meet with a Bioscience tutor for a science test and then an English consultant for your essay.
Soto explained the slam is a useful resource for students since the tutors have longer hours than normally scheduled during the semester.
These tutors and consultants have viable information that they can use to help make sure that you are well prepared for your finals or any papers that you may be in the process of writing. A little help has never hurt anybody, and with the help of any one of these tutors or consultants, it can make you feel confident to pass your finals.
