The Bagels & Coffee + Internships event provided a great opportunity for students to pick up some food and check out a wide range of different internships in the STEM field.
The lobby of the second floor of the science building filled and emptied as students gathered to grab bagels, various spreads, fruits, and coffee from the local restaurant Bagel Street Cafe. This event would not be possible without the dedication of MESA personnel Abbey Duldulao, Antoinette Corbin, and Michael Simpson, the former helping guide students asking questions about the internships.
Program Coordinator Simpson explained that during the summer, he heard a lot of students who were curious about internships and how to get one. So he had the goal to inform students on all the different opportunities they had on the MESA website and used what was successful in the past to make this semester’s Bagels & Coffee great.
When describing Bagel & Coffee + Internships new MESA Director Corbin said it was a chance to “Get her feet wet,” and familiarize herself with events like this.
Student Shealynn Cyr expressed regret in putting every single spread on their pesto and cheese bagel but remained adamant that she had a “plan to come back.” Cyr was also grateful for the chance to learn more about Biology and Pre-Med internships.
During the two hour event a variety of students were coming and going, smiling as they walked off with their coffee and bagels, some were even eager to come back as they loved the free food. One student said “Best choice I could make, I’m coming back later.” as they enjoyed their bagel with cream cheese.
While many did not have the chance to grab a bagel at the event, information on all the internships listed at the event are still accessible on https://www.losmedanos.edu/mesa/ under the Internships/Scholarships tab. As for other events, be on the lookout for another internship event happening Friday November 14th 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MESA center.
