The annual faculty and staff art exhibition is coming back to Los Medanos College. The exhibit will showcase the diverse work from nineteen members of the campus’ faculty and staff.
The gallery is an opportunity for the works of faculty to be shared with the community to show off their talents, some that may be hidden, to their colleagues and students.
Recently hired gallery director Sarah Lee who curated the event spoke of the work that goes on behind the scenes to make the upcoming show possible.
“Before the artwork is delivered, we patch and paint the walls, apply a fresh coat to the pedestals, and prepare the labels for the accepted pieces,” Lee said. “Then, we prepare for the opening [by] setting up the microphone and stereo, arranging refreshments, and ensuring all labels are in place.”
Lee expressed her excitement for the opening night of the gallery.
“Most, if not all, of the faculty and staff who have art on display are usually present for the opening, making it a great opportunity for attendees to interact with the artists and learn more about their work directly from them,” Lee said.
Graphic Arts Professor John Schall who submitted four pieces of work was enthusiastic about the gallery as he said the opening shows are always fun.
“It will be a fantastic opportunity to bring employees and students together, celebrating and appreciating the artwork on display,” Schall said.
Schall added the exhibition is a place for the artistic community to come together for their love of art.
“It beautifully blends community spirit with artistic expression, celebrating a wide range of interests and skills,” Schall said. “It serves as a wonderful example for students, demonstrating that LMC employees are not only relevant and creative but also enthusiastic about sharing their artistic passions.”
The gallery not only offers staff and faculty to show off their artworks but also to connect with students and others that appreciate their craft.
Lee called this exhibit “a fantastic opportunity to build relationships, network, and connect with the creative community,” praising the artworks submitted, calling them “truly impressive” and “definitely worth seeing in person.”
The exhibit opens with the reception Sept. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. with all encouraged to attend. The gallery will be free to the public Monday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. until October 17.
