American singer-songwriter D4vid has recently gained mass popularity with hit tracks such as “Romantic Homicide,” “Feel It,” and “Here With Me.”
The first two have grossed over more than half a billion listens, while “Feel It” is the least listened to but still manages a staggering 356 million listens on Spotify.
D4vid made an amazing comeback with his comeback album “Withered,” which was released April 25 and has 14 tracks along with a feature by Kali Uchis.
“Withered” is in a long line of albums by D4vid, in order from 2023 to 2025, they are “Petals To Thorns,” “The Lost Petals,” “The Withering,” and “The Withered”. They all follow one another and represent the growth of D4vid as a songwriter and vocalist, with his journey represented in his music.
The new album has been in the works for a little while now and was teased with the use of “The Withering” as a test album he was utilizing to give away hints for the themes and emotional flow of the album.
It has 14 tracks and one feature, which was from Kali Uchis, a famous artist in her own right. She’s featured on the seventh track, “Crashing”, which had an emotional feel. One of the verses that best conveys the tone is “When the world comes crashing down, I know where I’ll stand Right next to my baby, keep holding my hand ‘Cause the enemy may try to conquer and divide well, I’ll stay by your side every day and every night.”
Uchis and D4vid put up an amazing piece of music with this chill track that flows smoothly, with Uchis and D4vid having a great dynamic with one another.
But this album has more to offer than just features. The two singles that best represent the album are “You Left Me First” and “What Are You Waiting For”.
Both are written by D4vid and produced by Tyler Spry and Harry Charles, two amazing producers who have a history with D4vid. The tracks both have their unique features and themes that let them stand out.
“You Left Me First” has sad and profound lyrics that are meant to represent D4vid’s struggles with his relationships.
Repeatedly asking, “Why do you lie when there’s no point in lying?”
This is a continuing theme in the album, talking of a relationship where he gave it his all, yet he still has problems and uses this song as a way to express himself, and his love for music. I recommend listening to this song before “What Are You Waiting For”.
The next track adds to this song and makes it much more enjoyable. The song is also D4vid working on the theme of a relationship that is not going well. With lines that repeatedly show us “You Left Me First,” this song feels like a story of a girl who just can’t set her mind straight on whether or not she wants to spend her life with D4vid.
Overall, I love the album’s relaxed feel while also having dramatic and romantic lyrics. It is classic D4vid style, and I would rate this album a 4 out of 5. It will definitely be in my Spotify playlist and or Amazon music playlist.
