As we move into the fall season, the weather is gradually changing and so is the music taste of the students at LMC, as they return to the music they love.
A couple of students shared a lot of songs from the 1980s/1990s. Student Lisette Paz shared the popular 1980s band The Smiths song, “Back to The Old House.”
“The energy of the song reminds me of fall changing and going into a new season, it’s a relaxing and laid-back song,” said Paz
Khasheyna Senior highlights 1990s band, The Smashing Pumpkins’s song “1979” as the song that encapsulates the fall vibe.
“For me, it just feels warm and the colors I think of when I listen to the song are like orange, and dark reds, I think of scented candles and baking,” said Senior. “It just reminds me of the fall and it makes me feel warm inside.”
Student Brandon Flores shares “Here’s Where the Story Ends” by The Sundays as his favorite fall song.
“I think it’s just a fall song. The music by The Sundays is very 90s and gives that fall feeling that I enjoy listening to,” said Flores.
There was also a similarity among students when it came to the Jazz genre as the go-to genre to listen to during the fall time.
Student Heidriani Nanon shares Chinese-Icelandic singer Laufey as his favorite artist to listen to during the fall.
“Fall is super cozy, because of the weather I always listen to ‘From the Start’ by Laufey. The physical aspects of the fall season, it’s cold, you want to cozy up and drink something warm. It’s the end of the year and I like to wind down with a lot of things,” said Nanon. “I associate fall with genres such as Jazz and R&B because it reminds me of the fall.”
Similarly student Gizelle Tirado, shares “Autumn Leaves” by Frank Sinatra, as her song for the fall.
“It’s very peaceful and it gets you into the fall mood, the leaves are falling and you’re just enjoying yourself and the scenery,” said Tirado.
Student Marie Lupe Valdez shares “Autumn in New York” by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.
“I like it because it has a serene feeling when you listen to it, the song connects with the weather and the atmosphere when you go outside, and it’s soothing,” said Valdez.
Artists like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald who are all known for their impressive jazz performances, seem to be common favorites among students.
Straying away from the Jazz genre, student Stacy Guzman shares a hip-hop song, “Get Dis Money” by Slum Village, that is from a hip-hop group from the 1990s as her top pick for the autumn season.
“In the song, there’s an ‘ooooo’ in the beginning that calls to me, and reminds me of the fall,” said Guzman.
There are a variety of songs out there that encapsulate the feeling of the fall time for LMC students. Helping them encapsulate the feeling of bundling up with a nice cup of coffee, watching the leaves fall from trees, the weather changing, and wearing cozy sweaters.
