Art exhibition entitled Cross Currents featured by the Art Guild of the Delta opened Thursday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the LMC library. The gallery spanned the following week Monday-Thursday from noon to 4 p.m., showcasing multimedia works from students, faculty and those unaffiliated with LMC were able to sign up to participate.
The art gallery is a semesterly event, with Fall 2024 being Art department faculty and gallery curator Sarah Lee’s first semester curating and hosting, who was passed the baton by former gallery director Carol Ladewig.
“I’m curating, and then I’m trying to figure out a place where everything fits, and it’s kind of like a puzzle…” Lee said of her experience curating the event. “I kind of like matching the puzzle pieces together, locating where things [should go].”
Senior Lab Coordinator for Art, Journalism and Drama, Cesar Reyes, also had a large part in the gallery’s direction, working on the gallery events since 2020, including working alongside Ladewig hosting virtual galleries during Covid-19.
“Sarah Lee, our gallery director, has a great eye for laying out the artwork and our student workers Sofia Martinez and Sara Maza Sevilla help with hanging the artwork.” Reyes mentioned.
“It’s great to see it all come together and get to host artwork from the Art Guild of the Delta,” Reyes shared his feelings about the collaboration. Reyes noted that each gallery poses unique challenges in curation and how to effectively showcase each piece. “In this show we have a wide variety of materials used including a dress made out of teabags.”
The gallery showcased beautiful artwork that captured each unique aspect of visual artistry, including impressive sculpture, mixed media, painting, photography and the gorgeous aforementioned dresses created from reclaimed teabags.
