The Los Medanos College Mustangs Baseball team delivered a crushing 10-3 victory against the Yuba City Niners April 18. The game was the third and final game of the series, which LMC swept 3-0.
Dominating from the beginning, LMC scored a quick three runs off of a home run by No. 4 Smith Chandler, and two RBIs by No. 29 Heeryun Han and No. 3 Daniel Polasek. Chandler struck again in the third with a two-run home run, crushed deep into center field, clearing the wall with ease.
“I’ve never done that before, two in a row,” Chandler said after the game. “It was a fastball right down the middle, that’s what you do with them.”
The Mustangs offensive onslaught continued going into the fifth inning, with two more RBIs by No. 9 Charlie Malton and No. 18 Trent Keys, while their defense put on a remarkable performance, capped with a stellar day on the mound from No. 6 Nathan Leffel accruing eight strikeouts in the eight innings he pitched.
However, Yuba did not go down without a fight and scraped together three runs during the top of the eighth.
LMC made sure the runs didn’t go unanswered and scored three more runs to maintain their seven-point lead. Han batted in two more runs, and Malton managed a third to bring the score to 10-3.
LMC extended their winning streak to nine games in a row with this victory.
So far, they are 15-3 in conference games and are poised to continue dominating.
The Mustangs went 19-2 in conference last year, and this season is shaping up to be a similar story of domination.
As the team heads into the series before the playoffs, head coach Harmen Sidhu is confident in his players.
“I keep telling them,” said Sidhu. “If we play it clean and play the game our way, nobody can beat us.”
