Los Medanos College’s baseball team continued their outstanding win streak on Tuesday the 15th, defeating Yuba 10-2 at home for their seventh straight win.
“It feels good,” said Coach Sidhu. “In general, it’s a great feeling winning a game. But having won seven in a row makes it even better. We have goals of playing long into the season, so we have to win these games. “
The Mustangs, now 13-3 in conference, took an early lead with a run in the first inning and never looked back, scoring in six of the next eight offensive innings. The Mustangs had 14 hits and took advantage of Yuba’s three errors.
After the game, Coach Sidhu praised his pitching staff. “As always, pitching is critical. Everything begins with pitching and defense,” he explained. “No. 25 Justin Jones performed really well. No. 36 Jack Karst came in and was in a jam early on, but he pulled out of it, showing his determination. Then No. 24 Sean Mante came in at the end and shut it down.”
Jones won the victory after throwing six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and striking out two. Karst and Mante threw the last three innings and allowed no runs.
Chandler, No. 4, led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and three runs scored.
No. 10 Kai Smith crushed a home run and had three RBIs. While Chase Taylor, No. 7, also provided three RBIs on his own, including a base hit and a sacrifice fly.
Sidhu emphasized the importance of the initial swing: “It’s always big. When you’re playing a team for the first time in a series, you want to go out early – it’s like punching them in the mouth. Playing with the lead allows you to threaten a lot more.”
Los Medanos broke the game wide open in the third and fourth innings, scoring three runs apiece. No. 8 Benjamin O’Rourke also had an effective day, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Stangs look to continue the streak later this week as they advance through the conference. “We have to keep it going,” Sidhu said.
