Baseball team has biggest low of season

Hard Loss for the LMC Mustangs

Katherine Mustar, Staff Writer

Everyone that witnessed the baseball game this past Friday can agree that it was a hard game to watch, as the Mustangs lost this game with a score of 25-6. It wasn’t a clean battle.

Sacramento set the tempo for the rest of the game by being able to tag home base after taking one base after another in the beginning of the first inning. With the combination of poor pitches, slippery catches, and increasing frustration for the Los Medanos team, the score quickly slipped from the home team’s grasp and set them so far back that a chance for a comeback was futile.

In the first two innings, the Mustangs did not go down without a fight, getting a couple of runs with the defense working together to stop opposing players from reaching home plate. It looked as though the game was going to be closer than it ended up being.

Despite the effort, from the third inning onward, the sheer amount of times the opposing team was able to reach home base was too much for the Mustangs to handle, setting tempers even higher and creating more poor plays to the Sacramento Panthers advantage.

After the fifth inning, it was clear the Mustangs were not going to be able to recover the win. Every inning after the fourth sported a new pitcher on the mound, letting usually unused pitchers on the bench to show off their skill on the field. The pitcher’s mound wasn’t the only thing getting switched up, with players being switched out from the field to test the waters with different positions. New players were being pulled to the batter’s mound by the seventh inning, some even from the medical bay that you wouldn’t see playing due to their injuries otherwise. Despite the three and a half hour grueling game, spirits were still high, yet weary by the end of the game, if not partly in relief of the game ending.

Although the game wasn’t how they had hoped, the Mustangs geared up for the second game of the day against Sacramento City, with AJ Gamboa set to take the mound against the Panthers.
