Long-time trainer moves on from LMC
Martin takes job at Clayton Valley
A faculty member who has been with Los Medanos College since 2004 is moving on to a new school and a new position.
As the athletic trainer Annie Martin has made an impact on the student athletes and coaches at LMC. Now she is moving on to Clayton Valley Charter High School where she will take on a similar position.
In an email to the staff Martin made it official to everyone, but those who worked with her on a daily basis already knew.
“As some of you may know, I resigned from LMC last month to pursue a teaching/athletic training/asst. athletic director position at Clayton Valley Charter High School,” she said.
For the last ten years, Martin has worked hard to build the sports medicine program and she will be looking to do the same thing for Clayton Valley.
Head Coach of the baseball team, Anthony D’Albora, believes his team will miss her presence because of how much she enjoyed them.
“For us as a baseball team we’d like to think she liked us the most, so we’ll really miss her!” he said. “She was the athletic trainer when our pitching coach Chris Bodishbaugh was a player here at LMC so it was fun to see that relationship come full circle.”
The baseball program is not the only one on campus that will miss her presence. Head Coach of the volleyball team Lou Panzella said that the team is going to miss her.
“She had a very nice balance of understanding that players want to play and coaches want players to play, but her main responsibility was to the health of the athlete,” he said. “She will be missed in that regard.”
Though she will be missed, the school has filled the position temporarily with Kevin Boyd who served as the assistant athletic trainer last school year.
Panzella believes that they are lucky to have Boyd. “We’re just extremely fortunate that we have Kevin. He was Annie’s assistant last year and having him here has made for a very smooth and seamless transition,” he said. “I hope he’s able to maintain and stay.”
Whether Boyd is able to stay as the athletic director remains to be seen as his current appointment is only temporary and the position has been posted for qualified applicants.
“We have just posted the position for an out-of-class assignment opportunity for qualified employees from within the district, and the outcome of that posting is pending,” said Senior Dean of Student Services Gail Newman.
While soon she will be replaced she will not be soon forgotten, and Martin will not forget her time here at LMC either.
“I will truly miss the athletes and coaches and wish them all my best,” she said. “The mustangs will always hold a place in my heart. Go ‘Stangs!”
