DEAR EDITOR:
As students at Los Medanos College, we’re familiar with the stress that comes with balancing exams, jobs, and personal duties.
However, the mental health challenges we face often go unnoticed because of inadequate resources.
Currently, LMC offers counseling services, but the wait times for appointments are too long. Many students are unable to access help when they need it most.
It’s clear that LMC needs to expand its mental health resources. The college must increase funding for counseling services, extend hours to accommodate students with busy schedules, and introduce more preventative programs such as stress management workshops.
Additionally counselors should encourage students to seek help without fear of judgment.
Mental health challenges are an inevitable part of the college experience, but with the right resources and support, students can thrive. LMC is responsible to ensure that every student feels supported, both academically and emotionally.
Let’s make our campus a place where mental health is prioritized and students can find the help they need to succeed.
