DEAR EDITOR:
My name is Kayla Lodovico, and I am writing in support of Professor Guclu. I have been a student at LMC for two and a half years, and my major requires me to take math.
During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to take Pre-Calculus in Spring 2023, Calculus 1 in Fall 2024, and I am currently enrolled in Calculus 2.
In each of these courses, Professor Guclu has proven to be an excellent teacher and mentor. At the start of every semester, she sets clear expectations for the classroom and for us as students.
She consistently demonstrates her dedication to our success by being available for extra help whether that means staying after class, answering emails, or holding office hours. Professor Guclu accommodates anything I may need help with. I like how she understands that we have lives outside of the classroom, and accommodates our needs.
If I wasn’t going to attend class, she would organize a way for me to catch up, or if I had trouble getting to an assignment she would allow me extra time.
Professor Guclu’s teaching style has made math much more accessible for me. She presents complex concepts in a straightforward way, making them easy to follow and understand. I appreciate how she avoids overcomplicating lessons, which makes her lectures clear and effective.
Math can often feel stressful, but in her classroom, Professor Guclu brings a sense of enjoyment by incorporating math games and encouraging collaboration with peers.
This creates a positive and supportive environment where students can feel comfortable working together and expressing themselves.
Out of all the math instructors at LMC, Professor Guclu is by far one of the most approachable and effective.
It’s unfortunate that her ability to teach is being questioned, as she is fully capable of continuing to contribute to LMC as a great math professor.
