Anxiety is something that many can relate to. It taints our minds and makes us question our worth. Especially when combined with the time in our lives that focus on figuring out our possible forever paths and forging our careers.
Something that many forget is that our passions are the things that make us who we are as a person.
Personally, I make my own jewelry. From earrings to learning how to make rings, my hobby is the business that allows me to learn new subjects I haven’t learned before. Although, for many others it may be outside activities.
According to River State Therapy, in the state of California 55% of college students deal with some form of anxiety. It can range between Social anxiety, severe anxiety, or even milder symptoms.
It’s becoming more popular nowadays to talk about the struggles of anxiety especially during college life. The transition from high school to college can be very stressful for some so finding what they love and enjoy can help.
For the creative minded their hobbies might be arts and crafts, or even design based skills. Whilst, more logical thinkers,will enjoy their favorite possible pastime as an awesome puzzle on a rainy day.
Whatever people’s niche is, it’s something that can help cope with college stresses. Making time for the little things helps me along the way, especially as I tackle 4 writing courses this semester. Ironically, the hobby that helps the most with my stress is writing.
Another way to find out what you enjoy is joining any clubs on campus that interests you. As long as the time management aligns with your schedule.
I believe that LMC should offer more things on campus that feature hobbies. It’s a way to release endorphins that can be trapped because of stress.
Overall, allowing this to become a healthy outlet is a great way for students to learn their passions, interests and maybe even a future career they could dabble in.
