Being the platform to share an individual’s story through the lines on a page can create a profound impact, as a journalist’s priority is to provide a voice to the voiceless. With this message, the newspaper staff and I strive to never leave our past or future unwritten.
The Los Medanos College Experience is a student-run publication that captures the challenges and triumphs of our community through accurate and efficient reporting, to provide readers with the information they can trust. As our campus returns to life after the pandemic, changes and experiences are bound to come, making this semester more important than ever to keep a record of our journey toward a new normal.
Our newspaper covers various topics to fit our audience’s interests. From breaking news, coverage of campus events, sports, or entertainment, and sharing your voice through columns, the Experience engages in more ways than one. Readers will continue to be informed through weekly publications, both in print and online, but also stretch to other mediums as well. There is much to look forward to with this semester’s publication, ranging from special projects to podcasts and magazines.
For as long as I can remember, I have always held a love for storytelling, and my passion for sharing stories with others was never forced. Initially, I began as a correspondent, writing for the Brentwood Press to later become managing editor for a youth-centered publication. Known as the Youth Press, I organize, communicate and mentor a team of young writers to showcase their hard work in monthly newsletters and create an efficient learning environment devoted to improvement.
My experience in journalism continues to build from four years in the field, and all my given skills–keeping headstrong, organized, and passionate about each story–are solid components I will hold as editor of our student publication.
Capturing each of our special moments creates many unique stories from the curiosity and persistence of our writers, but that is just part of the Experience.
