Pittsburg’s first Halloween 5K Fun Run underway
If you have nothing to do this Halloween, the city of Pittsburg is hosting a 5K Fun Run Saturday, Oct. 31 to raise money for literacy and art programs for children in the city.
“It would be nice to participate because
other kids would have the opportunity to learn about literature and potentially express
themselves through art,” said Freedom High School student, Melanie.
Attendees are encourage to come suited up in their costumes as there will be costume contest in addition to the 5K run. The costumes have to be family-friendly – you will not be admitted if your costume is deemed inappropriate and since there are no refunds, you might want to make sure you’re dressed inoffensively.
Youth participating in the event will receive ribbons and medallions will be awarded to those lucky first three finishers of the 5K.
The kid’s run will start at 8 a.m. and the general Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. A map of the course is available on Eventuful.com.
Admission for children ages 1-12 is $10 and for everyone else, admission is $30. The adult price will go up to $35 Saturday, Oct. 24. You can pick up your registration packets at the Railroad Book Depot located at 650 Railroad Ave Oct. 29. If you are picking up a packet for other runners, you must bring a copy of their ID with you. A copy can include a photo of their ID according to a post on active.com.
According to the Old Town Pittsburg Facebook page, “this is a rain or shine event.” There will be celebratory festivities after the race is over. A post put up by the coordinators of the event says they’re “looking for sponsors who are willing to provide item donations for runner goody bags and/or monetary donations for the run.” It’s noted that the donations are tax deductible because the Pittsburg Arts & Community Foundation is a non-profit organization.
