Nominate S.T.E.L.A.R. students
May 15, 2020
Student Engagement, Leadership Awards and Recognition nominations are currently open to all Los Medanos College students until Monday, May 18. The award ceremony takes place through Zoom on Wednesday, May 20 at 12 p.m.
Students may nominate any students, staff or faculty who “have made remarkable contributions on campus and in the LMC Community,” according to the college’s website.
The awards nomination form features five different awards that students can nominate individuals for.
The Outstanding Leader Award recognizes LMC students “that have worked actively to enhance the LMC Community by both leading and creating opportunities for others to lead.” Any students that have shown leadership qualities on campus and have contributed to student life are eligible to be nominated for this award.
Furthermore, the Leader for Social Change Award applies to any student or student organization “that has actively worked towards social change and is committed to building a socially just space on campus—one characterized by physical and psychological safety for all.”
The Outstanding Student Club Award recognizes any student-run clubs that have had a positive impact on campus and LMC student life overall. The student club must be active in order to receive nominations for the award.
Any member of LMCAS can be nominated for the Outstanding LMCAS Leader of the Year Award. This award applies to any individual who has demonstrated outstanding student government leadership this past year.
The LMCAS award application requests that students “please consider such criteria as attendance at meetings, participation on committees, guidance to others such as senators, representatives, and other students, quality of performance of duties of the position, availability in office, relationship with other LMCAS student leaders and student clubs, and generally going above and beyond the call of duty” when nominating an individual.
The Advisor of the Year award recognizes a club advisor, mentor or program advisor that has gone above and beyond to support their students and lead them to success. The advisor must advise an active club or program to receive the award.
All of these award descriptions can be found in more detail on the STELAR nomination form.
