Students danced the night away at Los Medanos College’s long-awaited “Bridgerton” themed Homecoming dance. Lights and music filled the Student Union Conference Center Friday, Oct. 4, to celebrate LMC’s 50-year anniversary.
The DJ brought many attendees to the dance floor as he played music the entire night. Student Guadalupe Gama Gomez said she enjoyed his set as he included many song requests from students.
Student Life Ambassador Kat Pangilinan who came up with the idea of the dance and was the main organizer said that the DJ’s lights and lasers also added to the “vibe of the night.”
Many attendees posed with their friends at the photo booth which had props like glasses and hats. Some students also sang their favorite songs that night in the Student Lounge where karaoke was set up.
Upon signing in, attendees were given a ticket where they could write which club they thought made the best centerpiece. The night wrapped up with Puente taking home the award against Mesa, Basic Needs, and Games Club.
Gama Gomez, who is a co-president of Puente, said that she and other Peuntistas crafted the centerpiece in three days with materials provided by Professor Yollotl Lopez.
“Little by little we started building it up,” Gomez said. “We added the little horse on top to give it our little LMC vibe.”
While she said the process was a “hassle” at times, she added that “with teamwork, everything was possible.”
Student Daniela Ayala praised Pangilinan’s coordination of the dance saying, “It was really well planned and I think no one else could have done it the way she did.”
While she led the coordination of the dance, she gave credit to others who helped like LMCAS who funded most of it. She added that Student Life Program Coordinator Linsday Litowitz and Interim Director Robert Delgado also were a huge support as she asked them many questions throughout the process.
Ayala said the highlight of her night was “taking a break from worrying about school and everything and being able to chill with friends.” She added that she hopes to see similar events at LMC in the future.
Pangilinan explained that her goal with the event was to give students an opportunity to dress fancy with friends and also to experience a dance if they had missed out in high school like she did.
“I had a bunch of people come up to me and say they’ve never been to a dance before and this was their first one, so I’m really glad it turned out how it did,” Pangilinan said.
