Food lockers are now fully operational at the Los Medanos College Brentwood campus after their initial installation last fall.
Located in between Student Services and Student Commons, the food lockers give Brentwood students a valuable resource that they would otherwise have to go to the Pittsburg campus for.
To get access to the lockers, students simply have to follow the instructions listed above the ordering terminal and wait until the following Wednesday to receive their items. They are able to order an assortment of items including produce, cheeses, canned food, and more.
Interim Director of Student Life Robert Delgado expressed that he and the Basic Needs team wanted to make sure that students at the Brentwood campus had something similar to the marketplace.
Student Phillip Nwosu expressed that the food lockers were a needed addition to the Brentwood campus. He further shared that food resources are very limited compared to the Pittsburg campus, but it’s a “decent alternative.”
“Take advantage of all these different resources,” Delgado said, encouraging students to utilize the food lockers and other Basic Needs resources. “They’re here to support you.”
The implementation of food lockers at LMC was made possible with the collaboration between the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano and the LMC Marketplace.
LMC entered a Memorandum of Understanding with the food bank to provide the food lockers and even cover the cost for a year.
Delgado explained that the process of getting the food lockers began before he started working at LMC.
“It takes a long time to write these MOUs established because it’s a lot of writing back and forth, they’re several pages long,” Delgado said.
It took five months to get the lockers up and running albeit with a few minor glitches.
“We are college students, we spend a lot of money and it’s really convenient for us because we’re saving money that can be used for gas or something else,” said student Emmanuel Ochoa while referring to the benefits of the food lockers.
