Picture this, you have had quite a long day in class and want to grab a nice hot meal but unfortunately, when you turn the corner, the cafeteria is closed. Lucky for you, located in the student union building on the far left of the cafeteria entrance is the FoodTure hot food vending machine.
It’s been installed for quite a few months but recently students have decided to try it. The vending machine offers many options including several types of pizza, pasta, and teriyaki chicken bowls. Each item ranges from $8-$11 and has different wait times depending on the order. There’s an option to order it cold or hot with a heating point inside the machine to warm up the food to a perfect temperature.
The machine is completely touch screen, making it a smooth and quick order time, students can only order one at a time so prepare to stand and wait for the person who ordered before you to grab their meal. The campus is quite busy during the lunch rush, so it is a perfect option for a quick grab-and-go meal.
“This is my first time actually trying the food, it was a bit difficult to decide what to order but I wanted to be safe and get the macaroni and cheese,” said student Moriah Moore. “It was a bit pricey, like almost $10 so I don’t think I’ll buy from it again because it’s around the same price for a larger meal in the cafeteria, the wait time was also a bit slow.”
The vending machines are available just as long as the student union building is open, making it convenient for students staying on campus after 3 p.m. when the kitchen in the cafeteria closes.
“I’d say it’s convenient, I mean I haven’t actually tried it, but I’ve seen students grab a quick meal from it and go,” said student Riddhee Tailor.
Students do not have many complaints except for small inconveniences, like the pizza.
Student Kathia Ibarra said, “I got the pizza one time…I mean it was good, but the pizza wasn’t cut so I had to walk around to find something to cut my mini pizza.”
Besides the small complaints, the overall convenience and price are reasonable for students on the go, who have a low social battery or just do not want to wait in a lengthy line to check out. So overall the FoodTure vending machine is a safe option for students looking for something quick and easy.
