Food trucks are back on the Pittsburg campus, after a slow start to the semester with none in sight. Tuesday, March 11 brought back the Hon Teaboba and Azteca Streets Tacos trucks.
However the return has sparked some disappointment in students as many of their favorites have not come back to campus.
“I like the philly cheese steak, that’s my favorite. I wish that one would come more.” said student Alena Patten.
Last semester, interim student life director Robert Delgado was notified that some food trucks were not selling as much as they would’ve hoped for and he explained that it made some trucks hesitate to come on to campus.
LMC first entered a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with a food truck organization run by Anissa Williams years ago. Where the group agreed to provide food trucks on campus at least once a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
If food trucks are interested in coming on campus they are referred to Williams and are given a rundown on the MOU. To make sure they understand the guidelines they have to follow when on campus.
That being said the contract is at-will and at any point, either side can choose to stop it. Now with them back many are excited with the various food choices that come with that.
Delgado expressed that food trucks gave students and staff alike a variety of choices, elevating the overall food culture on campus.
“We like creating those experiences for students, where they don’t just have one option, but can enhance the experience as a whole by having multiple things,” Delgado said.
Students shared Delgado’s views on the benefits of food trucks on campus.
“I kinda like the variety…It’s a good thing to have a lot more options,” said student Raygie Higoy.
Food trucks are on the Pittsburg campus in front of parking lot A Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. So if you don’t wanna miss out on your favorite truck, be on the lookout.
