Mustang Day is the vision that students have brought to life. The theme, food, and games were all meticulously selected by students, while decor like the balloon columns were even handmade by them. The event proved to be a great showing of what can be achieved when the community is brought together.
The event gave students a chance to explore valuable resources that the campus had to offer as students came on campus for the new semester. What will stick out to many new and returning students is the chance to find a community to be a part of.
Student Gabriel Perez Cano stated, “I thought the event was great. Lots of activities and clubs for students looking for a community…Over the years the welcome started to become more and more active, which is great because it shows we are getting back to the groove of student life, showing what it’s like to be an LMC student outside of class.”
The theme for this semester’s Mustang Day was a resource fair, and among the variety of different programs, clubs, and resources, what stuck out was the overall sense of community. Members of both Umoja and Puente spoke highly about their respective programs.
They also showed similar sentiments of “Gaining a sense of direction” and “Helped me feel not alone.”
Students in need of additional resources were also given a deeper view of the LMC Marketplace collaborations with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, RYSE, and Panera. They were also introduced to EOPS, which supports students academically and financially.
Overall, the student-led event had quite a number of attendees and proved to be exactly what students needed to start the semester off with a bang.
