Thursday, January 30, students gathered in room L-109 from 1-3 p.m. to meet new people and create art at the Art with Friends event, hosted by Student Life. Art supplies, like markers, colored pencils, and boba-themed erasers, were all provided along with snacks.
Students came together to chat and work on templates of Instagram profiles, with drawing prompts like ‘your favorite dish’, and ‘one movie you’d like to watch again for the first time’. Those who partook were also prompted to draw their own profile pictures and highlights.
“The conversations were interesting; I got a new friend and saw someone [I knew] from high school,” student Kimora Mitchell said of the event. Mitchell mentioned they liked the idea of adding drawing prompts within each box on the Instagram template.
Student Life employees brainstormed the idea for the event over the course of two weeks, the main goal of the event being for students to connect.
“I was exploring around the campus, and I saw flyers,” student Rion Fernandez shared. “[This is] my first semester here, but I’m not entirely new,” Fernandez continued, sharing that he likes making different kinds of art in his free time.
“I work with Lindsay [Litowitz] to plan events and put up posters,” Student Life Ambassador Leo Chavarria, who helped organize Art with Friends, said.
Chavarria also mentioned that it involved, “working with other people and bouncing ideas off of each other.”
The event was a nice place for students to get together and share their Instagram profile art, as well as get to know new people at the start of the semester.
