In college, studying is an integral part of a student’s daily life. It is not only crucial to motivate students to ace their exams and quizzes, but it also sets them up for success. I asked students here on campus where some of their favorite spots to study are.
#1 – Study Boxes on Campus
The study boxes on campus are almost always filled with students sitting down to commence their session. Student Jen Ramirez stated that she often uses the study boxes to their full potential.
“I like how the study boxes are quiet and it’s just me in there, so I can’t distract myself. I also like the whiteboards in there because I get to do active recall, ” said Ramirez.
#2 – Panera Bread
While some students prefer to stay on campus to get their assignments done, other students like Brianna Cortez think Panera Bread is the place to go.
“I like going to Panera mostly because the environment is calming in a way. The music there isn’t obnoxiously loud, and it seems like the people there mind their business,” said Cortez, emphasizing the unspoken mutual respect amongst the community at Panera.
“The place is never busy, unlike Starbucks. There aren’t many distractions that could interfere with your studying, which is nice. Also, it’s nice to have lots of food options if you ever get hungry while studying,” said Cortez.
Food is fuel to our brains; it ensures we have enough energy to do our homework. Make sure you take breaks while studying to get food in your system!
#3 – Library
It’s unsurprising that students choose to study at the library. Student Mariam Nooristani claims that these are a good study spot due to the atmosphere and environment they provide.
“The library is probably the best space for me to study because it’s a quiet environment, and I always find it peaceful to study in an area where other people are studying,” she said.
Libraries also have an unlimited amount of resources for students to access.“The library also has books and computers that are very useful because I always forget to bring my laptop to school,” adds Nooristani.
#4 – Contra Loma Regional Park
Student Nathan Santos loves going to the park, and heads there to study any chance he gets. While some may consider it an unusual study spot, sometimes being outdoors is the way to go.
“I like going to Contra Loma Regional Park, it’s very peaceful there with a nice breeze,” said Santos. “There’s the lake, ducks. I like the vibes, especially with birds chirping. There’s also a lot of trees so there’s shade, and it’s not too hot either.”
#5 – MESA Lab
Student Hailey Jackson feels she receives the most help studying at the MESA lab on the second floor of the Science Building.
“I like the MESA lab because there’s tutors there that can help with the classes I’m taking. There’s also a lot of space to work and all the staff there are so sweet, ” said Jackson.
Overall, there are a variety of places in the area that can help you get your assignments done. Libraries and study boxes offer solitude, while local coffee shops and cafes create a space to feel like studying is visually appealing. No matter where you prefer to do your studying, find a place where you feel the most comfortable and confident — studying should be fun.
