HBCUs caravan tour stops

A group of 36 students from the Contra Costa Community College District, including 12 students from Los Medanos College, will have the opportunity to tour eight prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities March 22-28 during the upcoming Spring Break. In addition, they will visit the historic Whitney Plantation in Edgard, Louisiana as well as the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. Listed here are the eight HBCUs that the student group will experience.
Clark Atlanta University

Clark Atlanta University is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and is known for its excellent programs in the arts, business, public administration, and the humanities and the university shows a strong commitment to social responsibility.
Dillard University New Orleans

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dillard University is known for being the oldest HBCU in the state, founded in 1869, Dillard is home to notable programs in Nursing, Business, and Public Health.
Morehouse College

Morehouse College is an all-male HBCU located in Atlanta, Georgia and is home to strong programs in business, political science, and the sciences. Morehouse is known for educating strong Black leaders with notable alumni, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Southern University and A&M College

Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and featuring strong programs in nursing, business, and agricultural sciences, Southern University and A&M College is known as the flagship school of the Southern University System (SUS), the only HBCU system in the U.S.
Southern University at New Orleans

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is a member of the SUS and best known for its formidable programs in social work, criminal justice, and business.
Spelman College

Known for its impressive programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social science, Spelman College is an all-female HBCU located in Atlanta, Georgia committed to empowering Black women with notable alumni that include Stacey Abrams.
Tuskegee University

Home to the legendary Tuskegee Airmen from World War II, Tuskegee University, located in Tuskegee, Alabama, is known as a strong STEM school with great programs for engineering and an emphasis on research.
Xavier University of Louisiana

The only Catholic HBCU in the country, Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) is located in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is renowned for its exceptional programs in pre-medical education, pharmacy, and the sciences.
