Summer only comes once a year, and this summer, students at Los Medanos College shared their highlights soaking in every second of the hot weather before the season transitions into colder months.
First-year student Roxy Greeson spoke about her memorable trip to Clearlake, located in Lake County, Calif.
“I went on a 4-day trip to my friend’s lake house in Clearlake for her birthday, we went to thrift stores and went swimming,” said Greeson.
Over the summer, many artists held concerts. Student Ariam Gomez shared her wonderful experience watching a One Direction member, Niall Horan, perform at the Shoreline Amphitheater in San Francisco with her sister and cousins.
“We got last-minute tickets, and I’m a big 1D fan, so it made me excited knowing I’d meet one out of five members,” said Gomez.
“I got to sing and record so many of my favorite songs. The concert was about two hours long. It was very cold that night, but with all the jumping and dancing, my body didn’t need a jacket,” said Gomez.
Students also spent their free time during the summer with family and friends.
Student Romeo King shared how grateful he felt to have some time with his younger siblings after having such a busy schedule.
“Throughout the summer I was blessed enough to have time to spend with my little brothers. I took them a couple of times to go fishing at the Antioch Pier,” said King.
King reminisces on the times his uncle and grandpa would take him fishing as a kid, and now he gets to share that with his brothers.
“I miss going fishing with my uncle and grandpa, which we aren’t able to do anymore because they moved to Florida. So now every time I take my little brothers, it’s another reminder of the old memories, and it makes me feel closer to them,” said King.
Tahitian dancer Layla Lopez highlighted her successful vacation in Kauai, Hawaii, as the most memorable part of her summer. “This summer, my dance group and I traveled to Kauai to compete in a Tahitian dance competition,” said Lopez, sharing her triumph.
“We entered in two categories and ended up taking second place in both categories that we entered in.”
The memories made during summertime are all unique and significant for every student. No one shares the same experiences. Now all students can do is wait for next year, and hold onto the memories made in this year’s summer heat.
