Over the last week, I tested the McChicken for any variance in quality and to determine how the patty tastes independent of excessive toppings and condiments.
Overall, the McChicken was mid. It was about what you’d expect from McDonald’s. I got my first one with lettuce and mayo — which is standard — and it was okay; cooked about right, not too much mayo, and a little heavy on lettuce. It lacked the crisp, savory flavor associated with chicken patties, but this was offset by the abundance of lettuce.
The second McChicken I ordered was without lettuce, and I was able to confirm the patty’s blandness. Both sandwiches were flat and soggy.
In one of the sandwiches, I found a single long, curly hair embedded in the mayo. I can honestly say this isn’t a regular occurrence or featured ingredient at this location; this was the first time it’s happened to me, so it’s likely a fluke.
In general, the McChicken is hit or miss. Sometimes, it’s seasoned well; sometimes, it’s not. You’ll have visits where mayo is overflowing from the bread, and then you’ll have visits where there’s barely any at all.
I would recommend these sandwiches if you’re desperate for something cheap and edible.
Be prepared for unpredictable quality and accept that you might get unlucky sometimes. The inconsistency is hardly unique to this location.
Every McDonald’s I recall visiting over the last year served McChickens of similar quality.
I highly recommend adding lots of lettuce, mayo, pickles, etc., to the sandwich to add more flavor and texture.
The McChicken is also a great choice if you have a bunch of random McDonald’s points stored up on the app and you’re in a hurry to get to class.
The drive-thru at this location is regularly fast and accurate in the morning and early afternoon, with friendly employees.
