Although Los Medanos College is mainly online this year, the Classified Senate has come up with a fun way to raise funds for student scholarships — a “Trick Your Ride Contest” just in time for Halloween. The senate’s first fundraiser of the semester will be held Thursday, Oct. 29 on site in Parking Lot A and everyone is invited to show off their spooky holiday spirit.
“The goal of the event is to raise funds for the Annual Classified Senate continuing and transfer student scholarships,” said Senate President Nicole Almassey, who coordinates LMC’s Assessment Center and urges college employees to support student success.
Every participant will be able to decorate their car to their own sense of unique styling for the chance at bragging rights on having the best decorated vehicle.
Almassey said the event is a great way to be in the community in a safe way, have some fun and support students.
“Bragging rights as the best tricked-out ride are cool, too!” she added.
To secure a spot in the contest, drivers must pre-register online by noon Wednesday, Oct. 28 and pay the $20 entry fee. Due to COVID-19, no late registration will be accepted.
Almassey said she plans on paying the fee and decorating her car, but won’t say what costume her ride will wear to the contest.
“As one of the event organizers I will not have my car judged,” she said. “The theme is a surprise!”
The event organizers encourage everyone to stop by and see the creativity of those in the Halloween parade of cars. Judging starts at 2 p.m. and the display time is from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. For students and onlookers there will be other draws to attend the free event:
Those in need can pick up groceries from the LMC Food Pantry.
The Child Study Center has put together a Mad Scientist Goodie Bag for families.
The Nursing Program and Contra Costa Health Services are offering free drive-through flu shots from 2 to 6 p.m.
If you are unable to attend the event and you still want to make a donation, you can send in a check made payable to the Classified Senate to: LMC Classified Senate, Los Medanos College, 2700 E Leland Road, Pittsburg, CA, 94565.
